The Sea is a Hungry Dog | Poem Stanza| By Rhianne and Carolyn

When the night comes, wind roars

Along the sandy shores,

The waves lap and lick

And strolls along the beach

And sucks up all the sand like a leech

My Great Wall of China Report!!

The Great Wall of China
Report

The Chinese wall was built 221 B.C. B.C. is the year when Christ wasn’t around. The great wall of China was used for military defence. The person who built the great wall is Emperor Qin, Shi Huang. Most people that helped build the great wall were mostly soldiers and convicts. The wall was built to protect China from the Mongolians and Manchurians.

The Ming wall is another name for the great wall of China. The great wall of China extends from west to east China 8,50 km or 5,500 miles. The average height of the Ming wall is 7..88 meters. They spent 200 years building the great wall. The wall is placed in Huairou district.

The great wall is a very popular tourist destination. Visitors like to admire the view and take photos. Many people/tourists often come to the great wall because it has a long history and a huge scale which is said that you can see the wall from space.

The Ming wall is built from many materials including packed dirt, wood, brick and stone. The great wall is a powerful symbol. It is a very important symbol to China. They began  building watchtowers and garrisons, then later, started adding walls of stone and earth.

Many people say that you can see the great wall of China from space but that is actually not true. Fun fact, you can see the great wall with a naked eye. The great wall attracts many people each year. It is known to be the longest man made structure ever made.

My Chocolate recount

C h o c o l a t e   r e c o u n t

The day was here to make chocolate! We made chocolates to
give to one of our family members. Miss Paton put us in
groups. I was with Toakase, Deborah and Athena. The flavours
were milk chocolate, dark chocolate and white chocolate.
We each sat on a desk and waited for Miss Paton to come
with our chocolate.  Me and my group chose the flavour
white chocolate. After the chocolate was melted we all
gathered up at Meron’s table. Miss Paton showed us how
to scoop the chocolate and put it into the chocolate moulds.
We all went back to our tables and started to pour the
chocolate into our moulds. Also Miss Paton told us that we
could go to other people’s tables and get some more
chocolate flavours. Me and my group went to other people’s
table to get the milk chocolate. We used a pot and a plate to
melt the chocolate. We put boiled water into our pot. Deborah
had a great idea in putting the milk chocolate on top of the
white chocolate. After we finished, we saved one little mould
for the dark chocolate. I don’t like dark chocolate and neither
did the rest of the group. There was only one person that was
in my group that liked dark chocolate and it was Toakase.
After all of us finished putting the chocolate into the trays,
some people helped put the chocolate trays in the staffroom
fridge. I hope we can do more cooking soon.

My Camp Recount

I was so very excited to go to Camp. I couldn’t wait to see what was there.
I was thinking that there was going to be so many fun things to do.
When I arrived at school, lots of people were standing outside the hall.
My Mum took a photograph of me and my friends. She left to go to work.
Miss Paton did the roll check and talked for a few minutes.
Then we were finally going to Chosen Valley Christian Camp!
Me and my friends were sitting at the very back of the bus.

About one hour later we arrived at Chosen Valley Christian Camp.
I was jumping with joy when we arrived. It was like a big farm!
My bag was so heavy I felt like it was breaking my shoulders.
Me and my school went to put our stuff in the cabin where we were staying.
The boys from our school had to put their stuff outside while the girls put their
bags inside. We had an assembly. It was about who were in our cabins
and who was in our activity groups. My cabin roommates were Lesina, Ana,
Kanan, Elina, Betty and Carolyn. My activity group was Zariah, Mikkie, Patrick,
Betty, Jirah, Daniel, Huia, Kale, Deborah, Anna and Athena.

The first activity that my group did was Kayaking with Mrs Kopua.
Me, Betty and Zariah got changed into our swimming togs and the boys
did too. Mrs Kopua taught us how to use the paddle. She said to do a figure eight.
Once all of us were in our Kayaks including Mrs Kopua we were having so
much fun going across the lake and back. I also thought that I was a really
good Kayaker. This was my first time trying out kayaking. Then Mrs Kopua
told some of us to get out of our water and wait for a second turn. After all of
us had a second turn we all had to get out of the water and go to our next activity.
Me and Mikkie helped people get out of their Kayaks by holding the boats so they
didn’t fall into the water.

Our next activity was go karting with Miss Gannie from St Therese and Mel from CTK. Mel was at the top of the hill. She waited for us to come with our
Go karts and ride down the hill. Miss Gannie told us that the go karts were
old fashioned. They had a cushion for your bottom, a rope that was like a
steering wheel and there were also tiny wheels at the front and big wheels.
There were not many helmets for all of the group so we had to share.
It was so nice to be with my friends. I had a great time go karting, even though
I crashed a few times. It was quite cloudy and it was sunny at the same time.
I thought Miss Gannie was very nice to us. There were tyres lined up for our
driving path. There were sheep too. Then it ended and it was time for some
lunch!

All of us joined together to have some lunch. We had pasta with some veggies.
It was so delicious. It was bursting with flavours. After the yummy lunch we got
some free time.

Mrs Kopua said there was an adventure playground. Me and my friends went to
our cabin. When we went out the bell rang and we had to assemble.
My and my friend Betty missed our chance to go to the adventure playground,
which was quite disappointing. When it was getting dark all of us went for a
bush walk. Mrs Kopua lead the way. We went up to a high hill and all of us were
so very tired already. Mrs Kopua told us that the hill was not the first part of our
bush walk and everyone then said “Ughhhh” in a tired way. When we went to the
middle of the hill there was a beautiful view. I loved it.  A few hours later after
the bush walk we had to go to bed and brush our teeth. I got changed into my
pyjamas and brushed my teeth. Me and my friends couldn’t sleep. We were
too busy talking and having fun. Miss Goodier stayed with us until we fell asleep.
I couldn’t really sleep because of Betty’s snoring.

The next day me and Kanan were the only ones awake. I could still hear Betty
snoring. I didn’t know what to do and I also didn’t want to read my book, so I
just went to sleep for a few minutes.  A few minutes later, people started to
wake up. All of us were awake but Betty was still asleep and snoring. We
were all staring at Betty until she woke up. Suddenly Betty woke up and she
was looking at us staring at her. Then she said “GoodMorning”. All of us were
laughing. Minutes later it was time for breakfast. I went to the bathroom to
brush my teeth. After that I went to my room and got changed. I was changing
and taking my time until the bell rang. Me and my friends were rushing and
changing. After we assembled out in the grass. We all started to walk to the
place where we needed to eat. One by one we lined up and each took a knife,
Spoon and fork. Mrs Kopua put us in different table groups. I really hoped
pancakes but we didn’t have it for breakfast. The first activity that we did for
day two was balance Island with Miss Paton. Miss Paton showed us a
demonstration by walking on the wobbly bridge. We waited in line until it was
our turn. I was scared to walk on the wobbly bridge because I thought I was
going to fall in the lake. After Patricks turn it was my turn and Anna was
cheering for me. I was so scared to walk across the bridge.  Once I got on
I thought it was easy. Once I got to the balancing part it was getting harder.
I kept on going back and forward so I stopped on the island. After we did
balance island we were going to the Confidence Course! I was waiting in
excitement to do the Confidence Course. When we arrived, Miss Dale taught
us how to do it. Some of the boys showed us examples. After that we all got a
turn of swinging on the rope and going on the net. It was my turn and I was
swinging on the rope. My foot couldn’t hold on to the net so I fell into the mud.
It was disgusting at first but then I got used to it. Miss Dale let us play in the
mud. It sounds disgusting but it was really fun. After the confidence course I
went to take a shower and then meet at the assembly for lunch. We had Mac
and Cheese with Bacon. It was very delicious. We all had lunch Mrs Kopua
gave us some quiet time and free time. We had some play at the adventure
playground then we had to go to bed.

The last day was here I was quite moody because I felt very sick. Our plan for
today was just to pack up our stuff, do one more activity and clean up.
My last activity was with Virginia and Caroline. It was called team building
and also leap of faith.  We did trust fall, we carried each other into a net hole.
We also did some other things too.

I really enjoyed the last three days of camp. I think that spending time with my
friends and taking time away from my annoying sisters was the best three days
of my life but except for getting home sick. I really wish that I didn’t get sick on
the third day of camp. I hope that when I go to Marist I will have more memories
to come.

Taking Flight

Taking Flight

On a regular sunny day me and my dad went to my
grandpa's house. My grandpa was in his garage cleaning
or fixing something. I couldn’t get out of the car. So
then I fell. It kinda hurt.  I was sad to see my dad
leave me. Then dad got a text message. He kissed me
and left off to the road. He said that we could play
tomorrow but he said that yesterday. Grandpa Nono
put me down on a box. He had mawn the lawn. I was
so bored Then I looked around the garage room. I saw
a picture with grandpa nono and dad. I wanted to grab
it so I stacked lots of boxes to try and get up.
Suddenly I fell to the ground. It hurt badly but I still
got the photo. A red helmet fell in front of grandpa’s
lawn mower. He found the helmet and saw me then he
said “Santa Maria!” Then he saw the wheel borrow and
the picture in my hand. He then said, “You know that
used to be your dad’s.” He asked if I wanted to go on
a ride. So we went on a ride down the street.
Suddenly I heard a strange noise coming from the
bushes. It all changed into a jungle and trees, there
were many scary monkeys. All the monkeys started to
look at me and grandpa Nono. They all started to
scream like how monkeys would but even louder. All the
horrifying black monkeys started to chase us. The
wagon was like a rockey roller coaster. We then
Jumped off a cliff. The wagon turned into a boat
in the water. There were jaw biting crocodiles snapping
their mouths at me and grandpa. The water was
very blue and there was a river. Both of us went
down the streamy blue river. Up ahead was a big
loud splashy waterfall. We fell and suddenly the
wagon turns into a fast flying red plane! We flew
up high in the sky. It was so awesome. I wanted to
go again and again. But my bear shook his head.
Grandpa Nono was flying the plane but then it ran
out of fuel. We were going to crash! So Grandpa
Nono said “We have to jump. It's now or never!”
So we did. It was like jumping out of a plane when
you go skydiving. Oh how I loved it. We even had
awesome parachutes. We landed at a nice park.
Grandpa Nono was talking about our adventures we
just had. Grandpa drank some water and gave it
to me. But then a green hurtful laser shot the
swing saw. Grandpa then said “ALIENS”. We went
on something that looked like a plane but smaller. The
Aliens started to shoot lasers at us. We flew around
a green and yellow Saturn. I had the chance to shoot
the Aliens away. We celebrated after taking all of
those aliens down. But what we didn’t know was that
there was a Huge alien UFO that was pointing there
big laser guns towards us. So I got the gun and… My
dad came to pick me up. I realized that we weren’t
imagining anymore. I was holding up the hose and it
sprayed just a tiny bit. It was a little awkward to do
it in front of my dad. My dad was very shocked. He
said My name and grandpa’s name. Then he said with a
gasped “what happened and why are you so dirty?”
Then we both smiled. He looked down and saw his old
wagon. He faced it towards him. There was water in
it and he also saw his reflection. It simply changed
into his younger self for just a few seconds. My dad
told me if grandpa told me when we went to the moon.
We simply changed into Astronauts preparing to lift
off to the moon. I was so excited to go to the moon,
especially with my loving father. I then said “It’s now
or never!” Dad said “Fire up the hyperdrive.” We were
lifting off! Dad looked at me and smiled. WE WERE
GOING TO THE MOON!

Glacier Dictogloss

Glacier Dictogloss

Glaciers are huge ice sheets that flow like a slow moving
river. A glacier is like  a large sheet of ice, that moves
around very slowly.
Glaciers are formed by snow water and ice that remain
in the same area. Glaciers form over hundreds of years
through the compression of ice over time.

Glaciers look like dusty, rocky ice. They are a beautiful
aqua marine colour. Glaciers are usually divided into
groups by colour. There are two types of glaciers.
There are alpine glaciers that form in the mountain
areas. Continental glaciers form ice sheets.
Glaciers change the shape of mountains. They are
usually V shaped. Before a glacier takes over it turns
the mountains into a U shape. Did you know that 47
countries and 10% of the earth have Glaciers? In New
Zealand there are two glaciers called, Fox Glacier and
Franz Josef Glacier. Glaciers are mostly found in
Greenland and Antarctica. Greenland is not what you
think, it is really cold and has no grass at all.
Fun fact, Lambert Glacier is the largest glacier in
the world. It is 100k wide, 400km long and 2.5
kilometres deep.

If all glaciers melt the whole of London would be
covered in water.

Whetu and Nick By Rhianne

Whetu & Nick
On Wednesday July 31st I went to watch Whetu and Nick.
The whole school went to the Vodafone Event Centre to
watch the theatre production. I was very happy and excited
to see Whetu and Nick, but I couldn’t understand what
Whetu was saying. She spoke Maori for the entire show.
Rooms 1 and 4 had to take buddies. My partner was Cornelis
from Room Five. I didn’t like the other schools because
one of the students kept kicking my chair. I was sitting
next to Miss Lee and my partner.

The story was about a Maori girl and a British boy.
The British boy came from Captain Cook’s ship. He was
looking for a map that blew away. He ended up in New
Zealand and met a Maori girl map together until Whetu let
Nick fly her
Manutukutuku  (kite). Then the wind suddenly knocked the
Manutukutuku out of his hands. The kite and the map both
ended up on a Mountain. So they both found their things
together.

The best thing about Whetu and Nick was that it was
funny and it was also very interesting. The worst thing
about the theatre show was that it was short and they
didn’t change their backgrounds. Apart from all the good
things and bad things it was still a really good theatre
show to watch. I really enjoyed watching it.

I felt tired while watching the show. I also felt excited at
the beginning because it looked like a good show to watch.
I loved the show. I would love to see the next theatre show
that the school goes to next.

My Time at my Friends Birthday party

My Time at my Friend's Birthday Party
During the holidays I went to my friend's birthday party.
His name is Karam. He was turning 5. I came really early
because my Grandma and Grandpa live with them.
I also I went to see my Grandpa.
He is currently staying in a rehabilitation called Laura
Ferguson. He had a stroke while he was in a hospital
and now recovering at the Laura Ferguson Centre.
He is transitioning there to get use to start living at home.
I didn’t know that my friend was having a birthday party today.
I decided to help anyways for the party. There were small
balloons in front of the door. My Grandma and his Mum
went to get the cake. After all of us  finished setting up for
the birthday party, we just started riding our bikes outside.

*As the guests entered into the house we were playing outside.
My Grandpa’s house was almost packed  with children and
parents. There were mostly Dads downstairs chatting and
all of the children were playing outside. The mothers were
upstairs and the teenagers too. It was like all of the guests
were split up into groups. We had dinner. I was sitting on the
comfortable red chair watching YouTube in my Grandparents
room, until the birthday boys Mum came. She told me to
come eat upstairs but I was not really hungry. Anyways I
went upstairs. To my surprise I was shocked to an assortment
of food. The food was Spring rolls, salad and more. The salad
was quite sour because it had lemon juice all over it. The spring
rolls were super delicious. I liked them a lot as they had
vegetables in them. There was this spicy food but I forgot what
it was called. There were different flavours of punch. also
different kinds of punch.

The dinner was so delicious. There was so much food on the
table. So I grabbed my food and went back down stairs.
I was sitting on the bed and watched a movie. After I
finished eating I played games on the computer and I
played outside too. Later on I went upstairs to sing happy
birthday and eat cake. His cake was Paw Patrol themed.
It even had the logo on it. The flavour was chocolate and it
had chocolate icing. It was very delicious and it had blue
fondant on the outside.

I had so much fun at Karam’s birthday. I enjoyed the food and
cake. These foods were very yummy and bursting with lots of
flavours. I would have loved to play there again because I liked
playing with his little baby sister. I really enjoyed being at that
party.
